Musicology is research-based study of music from a theoretical and historical perspective, in its social and regional forms and genres. It examines classical European music and its history as well as traditional (folk) musical cultures and musical pop culture. In addition to analysing music, musicologists explore topics in the fields of music sociology, music psychology, music acoustics, and ethnomusicology.
