Ján Turňa was one of the first in Slovakia to teach modern molecular biology, first in the lecture "Biochemical Regulation" at the Department of Biochemistry in 1980. The lecture focused on the regulation of gene expression of selected chromosomal and phage operons. The regulation of gene expression at individual levels of living systems is still the focus of teaching in the molecular biology study program and forms a crucial part of the core subjects in all three levels of study. In 1983, he introduced the lecture course "Recombinant DNA" first as part of an individual study program and then as an elective later as a compulsory part of the study program. It was the first officially taught subject of this specialization in the then Czechoslovakia. In the presented program, more than 7 (according to the student's choice) lectures, seminars and exercises deal with this issue. Recombinant DNA technology is a fundamental methodological tool in modern molecular biology.
