VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years
1

VEGA 1/0180/24Application and evaluation of the results of multifunctional analysis of surface seismic waves (MASW) in geological engineering and geotechnical tasks. 2024-2027. PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR. Annotation: he nature of the project is to create a methodology for obtaining geotechnical parameters of the environment using seismic methods (mainly MASW). Geotechnical parameters are used in engineering geological, geotechnical, or environmental tasks. Now they are mainly gained from laboratory tests performed on field samples from drilling. This approach is spot-based and requires drilling. Therefore, it is important to have other options available. This option can be dependence of geotechnical modules on the seismic velocities. Seismic measurements enable to obtain values of geotechnical parameters over the entire length of the measured profile. This methodology can minimize the possibility of obtaining an unrepresentative drilling sample and also reduce the amount of drilling works, especially in areas with difficult approach. The ambition of the project is to correlate the results obtained from seismic measurements with the results of field engineering geological tests as well as laboratory tests.

2

VEGA grant 1/0559/17 Application of seismic measurements in landslide areas, 2017-2019. PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR, Annotation: The basis of the project is to develop a methodology for obtaining geotechnical parameters of a landslide area using seismic methods. The results of seismic measurement will be used for calculation of geotechnical parameters necessary for slope stability assessment, such as: Young´s modulus, Poisson´s ratio, volumetric weight, and shear strength parameters. The engineering geological approach of obtaining geotechnical parameters is a point system, whereas the application of seismic measurement will provide continuous values of geotechnical parameters along of the profile. The application and analysis of seismic measurements in order to determine geotechnical parameters of landslide areas in Slovakia is new, and we believe that developed methodology will help us better prognosticate slope movements. The ambition of the project is to correlate the results obtained by applying seismic measurements in selected landslides to the results of engineering geological in situ testing as well as laboratry results.

VEGA 2/0033/23 Slovakia, Late Middle Palaeolithic, Early Upper Palaeolithic, caves, interdisciplinary research, archaeological findings. 2023 - 2026, co-investigator, Annotation:The project deals with the transition between the Late Middle Palaeolithic and Early Upper Palaeolithic, when Neanderthals disappear from archaeological contexts and the finds of anatomically modern humans gradually emerge and expand. The Middle Danube region plays an important role in this topic. Recently, research of this issue in the surrounding countries has shifted considerably, especially in connection with new or re-evaluation of older data from archaeological excavations carried out in the 19th-20th centuries. Particularly important are the archaeological contexts deposited in the caves. Despite the fact that we know many important cave sites in Slovakia, research of this issue has not progressed significantly in recent years. The project builds on new results from Hungary, Moravia and Poland. The project aims to verify cave contexts from this period in Slovakia and their interdisciplinary evaluation.

4

APVV-23-0282 The interaction of man and the environment in the context of prehistoric cave settlements in Slovakia, 2024 - 2028, co-investigator, Annotation: Slovakia, thanks to its geological structure and geomorphology, possesses a significant number of caves. Their sedimentary fill represents a crucial source of information about the development of climate, the natural environment, and human utilization of the landscape in the past. The first archaeological excavations have primarily focused on discovering traces of human occupation within the caves. Despite the available possibilities, minimal attention has been given to understanding human interaction with the natural environment. Contemporary research has made substantial progress compared to early field investigations, owing to a modern multidisciplinary approach. This approach encompasses not only the processing of archaeological finds but also a detailed analysis of the stratigraphic context, incorporating paleobotanical, paleozoological, geological, sedimentological, and paleopedological analyses. The potential of employing various scientific methods is evidenced by initial results from Hučivá diera near Tatranská Lomnica, the Veľká ružínska Cave, and from sites under rock shelters in Ružín. The INTERCAVE project builds upon the research conducted at these sites and includes Deravá skala near Plavecký Mikuláš and the Čertova pec near Radošina. The project aims for multi- and interdisciplinary processing, including the evaluation of proxy data obtained, with the intention of validating existing hypotheses regarding the evolution of climate and environment and their impact on prehistoric societies in the regions under study.
