VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years
1

2017–2020 project leader VEGA 1/0085/17 "Structural relationships and tectonometamorphic evolution of the Meliatic, Turnaic and Silicic units"

The research project has been directed to the geological structure and tectonic evolution of southern zones of the Western Carpathians associated with the supposed suture after the Neotethyan (Meliata) oceanic domain. The partial research themes and methods concerned the petrology, geochemistry and tectonometamorphic development of magmatic and metamorphic rocks, the lithology, sedimentology and biostratigraphy of sedimentary formations, as well as structural analysis, mechanisms and time of emplacement of the Meliatic, Turnaic and Silicic units. Resulting from determination of the character, succession and age of the principal tectonic and metamorphic events of the area, an evolutionary palaeotectonic model of these units in the context of structure of the Western Carpathians and the entire Alpine-Carpathian-Dinaridic orogenic system is being elaborated.

2

2017–2021 project co-worker APVV-16-0146 "Multidisciplinary research of geophysical and structural parameters, and environmental impacts of faults of the Western Carpathians"

The project aims at gathering data about the tectonic faults, their parameters and activity essential for the territorial planning, building activities and general assessment of natural hazards for the human doings and health resulting from the geological environment of specified areas. New data are acquired by a multidisciplinary approach, such as the field geological mapping and structural research, various geophysical and geochronological methods, geodetic measurements, radon emanations, historical earthquake data, or seismic monitoring.

Results are presented at the web page https://geopaleo.sk/projects/apvv-16-0146/

3

2018–2022 principal investigator of the project APVV-17-0170 "Early Alpidic tectonic evolution and palaeogeography of the Western Carpathians"

The project aimed at gathering new information about the so far unclear problematic aspects of geological structure and tectonic evolution of the two Western Carpathians. The main intended goal is, based on the existent and newly obtained data, to develop a comprehensive evolutionary tectonic model of the Western Carpathians and to compile original palaeogeographic maps of the Alpine-Carpathian-Dinaric-Balkan area for the Mesozoic and early Paleogene periods. The APVV Agency evaluated the projct results as excellent.

Outputs are presented at the web page https://geopaleo.sk/projects/apvv-17-0170/

4

2021–2024 project leader VEGA 1/0435/21 "Dynamics of evolution of the Mesozoic sedimentary basins of the Western Carpathians"

The project is focused on the interpretation of the origin, evolution and decay of Mesozoic, particularly Jurassic–Cretaceous sedimentary basins of the Western Carpathians. The basins are understood as complex geological structures changing in time and space. Based on lithological-sedimentological, biostratigraphical and geochemical investigations of sedimentary successions, we plan to clarify their age, depositional environments, character of sources of clastic material, the role of synsedimentary volcanism, interaction of endogenous and exogenous processes, subsidence history and the overall architecture of the sedimentary basin fills. We shall discern evolutionary stages of individual basins (pre-rift, syn-rift, post-rift, syn-orogenic, post-orogenic) and interpret paleotectonic basin types (e.g. graben-like, symmetric vs. asymmetric rifts, piggyback, trench or foredeep depressions), and geodynamic processes operating on the crustal and/or lithospheric scale (extension, compression, transtension).

Outputs are presented at the web page https://geopaleo.sk/projects/vega-1-0435-21/

5

2022–2026 project co-worker APVV-21-0281 "Alpine geodynamical evolution of the Western Carpathian inner zones"

The aim of the project is the kinematics and deformation of nappe units, their burial versus exhumation history and a geodynamical model of the Alpine evolution of the internal Western Carpathian zones. The main emphasis will be placed on low-angle thrust and normal shear zones at the boundaries of nappe units (Tatric, Veporic, Gemeric and superficial nappe units) and in the overburden of granitoid intrusions (Veporic, Tatric and Central Slovak Neovolcanic Field). The most modern methods of structural geology and affordable low temperature geochronological methods will be used in the implementation of the research goal. It follows that the objectives of the research can be divided into two parts: (1) a comprehensive solution for the burial, unroofing and exhumation of the Western Carpathian crystalline

basement by dating methods; (2) kinematic analysis, reconstruction of palaeostress fields, related tectonic regimes and their application in

modelling of Mesozoic-Cenozoic geodynamic evolution.
