APVV 17-0178 - Impact of circadian disruption induced by artificial light at night on physiological and behavioural processes. Principal Investigator: Prof. Michal Zeman, Mechanisms how disturbed circadian rhythms may lead to the development of these diseases are not sufficiently understood. Therefore, in our project, we will analyze the impact of artificial light at night on circadian rhythms in the cardiovascular system and its sensitivity to stress, activity of the immune system, metabolism and behavior.

Hundreds of genes exert a rhythmic pattern in their mRNA. It is very likely that the circadian regulation of transcriptome is reflected also by changes in miRNA expression. This is supported by several implications. mRNA and miRNA transcription shows several similar features. Proposed project is therefore focused on the circadian and ontogentically regulated miRNA expression in tissues and circulation. We shall investigate effects of chronodisruptors and synchronizing agents on miRNA expression as well.
