VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years
1

Responsible solver VEGA 1/0098/14 Assessment of environmental burdens from mining and industrial activities by using fyto- and genotoxicity parameters. The project will evaluate the phyto- and genotoxic effects of metals from environmental burdens on various sites impacted by mining and industrial activities (Poproč, Medzibrod, Dúbrava, Slovinky, Poša, Zemianske Kostoľany). The following parameters will be evaluated: growth, physiological functions of plants and frequency of chromosome abberations in plant root tips. With physiological functions, in addition to growth and production factors, the level of stress factors (TBA-reactive and lipid oxidative products, thiol groups of proteins), enzymatic activity (glutathione-S- transferase, guaiacol peroxidase, lipoxygenase, acid phosphatase) and the level of undamaged root cells will be determined. The intensity of inhibitory effects on particular parameters will be related to metal accumulation and translocation. All introduced parameters will be also evaluated in respect to interactions with other presented metals. On all localities structure and contamination of plant communities will be also evaluated. https://evega.minedu.sk/e-vega/(S(5aidi255j5mnhdyyslcvneeb))/users/Projekty_zoznam_0001.aspx

2

Responsible solver KEGA 029UK-4/2016 Build-up of environmental databases, their systematization and utilization for education materials generation.Aim of the project is to address three basic issues related to education through information technology: (1) more effective communication in teaching between students and teachers, (2) creating a single space for educational and supplemental materials in electronic form, (3) the development of interactive educational materials, creation of multimedia programs and books and manuals on emerging trends in environmental conservation, landscape and public health. The scope of project is besides the design, implementation and testing of selected information tools in practice also analysis of processes and procedures that would best solve the problems occurring on the user side. Although the project will focus primarily on improving quality and facilitating access to information from the protection and exploitation of nature and country on which the implementation will focus, solved problems on software level could be applied in other education activities. The project output will be an electronic portal which will provide (1) direct contact between teachers and students as well as study materials and support programs for students’ evaluation, (2) a lot of multimedia and interactive materials also for the general public and all persons interested about the current state of the environment. To increase the accessibility to problems of quality and state of the environment for people without access to the Internet, the part of the materials will be presented not only in electronic but also in printed form. The portal will be suitable for all age groups (including retirees), as well as for people with physical (e.g. visual) and other disabilities. https://projekty.portalvs.sk/projekty/projekt/projekt-data/9772

3

Deputy Prooject Manager VEGA 1/0332/18 Toxic effects of heavy metals on photosynthetic organisms and biota in environmentally polluted environment / The project will be evaluating the toxic effects of metals from the environmental burdens on

the areas impacted by mining and industrial activities (Medzibrod, Dúbrava, Zemianske Kostoľany,

Pezinok environs in the Small Carpathians). The following parameters will be evaluated: growth and physiological functions of algae and plants, where in addition to growth and production factors will be determined also the level of stress factors (TBA-reactive and lipid oxidative products, thiol groups, proteins), enzymatic activity (glutathione-S-transferase, guaiacol peroxidase, lipoxygenase, acid phosphatase, urease) and the level of undamaged root cells. Intensity of the inhibitory effects on mentioned parameters will be evaluated regarding to interactions with other presented metals, too. On the all localities structure and contamination of plant communities will be also evaluated. Research will be focused on the possibilities of metal occurrence in the bird feathers, too.
