Jednodruhové a polymikrobiálne biofilmy formované kvasinkami rodu Candida a Gram-pozitívnymi baktériami Staphylococcus aureus a Streptococcus mutans., grantová schéma VEGA 1/0628/15, trvanie 01/2015 - 12/2018, spoluriešiteľ projektu

Projekt bol zameraný na výskum jednodruhových a zmiešaných biofilmov kvasiniek rodu Candida a niektorých baktérií. V prvej fáze projektu bola vypracovaná metodika prípravy a vyhodnocovania jednoduchých a zmiešaných biofilmov na rôznych povrchoch. Pri vybraných mikroorganizmoch bola urobená detailnejšia molekulárna analýza zmeny expresie niektorých génov zahrnutých do biofilmu, hlavne po ovplyvnení protilátkou anti-CR3-RP, ktorá je namierená proti významnému povrchovému proteínu kvasiniek rodu Candida. Zistené boli niektoré významné vlastnosti quorum sensing molekuly farnezolu, ktorá má potenciál prostredníctvom modulácie morfologickej transformácie C. albicans významne ovplyvňovať aj duálne biofilmy so S. aureus a S. mutans. V projekte sa testovali aj účinnosť fotodynamickej inaktivácie v eradikáciu rezistentných mikroorganizmov a ich biofilmov.

Fotodynamická inaktivácia - unikátny prístup v eradikácii mikrobiálnych biofilmov. Grantová schéma VEGA 1/0537/19, trvanie 01/ 2019 - 12/2022, spoluriešiteľ projektu

Projekt predstavuje komplexnú štúdiu zameranú na vplyv fotodynamickej inaktivácie (PDI) na jednodruhové a zmiešané biofilmy tvorené Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Escherichia coli a kvasinkami rodu Candida. V procese PDI budú testované fotosenzibilizátory (PS) samotné a imobilizované na vrstvených nanomateriáloch s cieľom pripraviť optimálne antimikrobiálne systémy. Výsledky projektu by mali rozšíriť vedomosti o potenciáli PDI pri eradikácii mikrobiálnych biofilmov.

Prevencia a eradikácia mikrobiálnych biofilmov vo vzťahu k nanomateriálom. Grantová schéma APVV-15-0347, trvanie 07/2016-12/2020, spoluriešiteľ projektu

Projekt bol zameraný na štúdium jednodruhových ale aj polymikrobiálnych biofilmov formovaných baktériami S. aureus, E. coli, Streptococcus mutans a kvasinkami z rodu Candida. Testovali sa hybridné systémy na báze ílového minerálu saponitu a fotoaktívnych látok, a to metylénovej modrej a floxínu B. Študovali sa aj antimikrobiálne účinky quorum sensing molekuly farnezolu na biofilm C. albicans a boli urobené pilotné experimenty aj na zmiešaných biofilmoch C. albicans a oralnej baktérii S. mutans. Výsledky preukázali účinnosť niektorých bioaktívnych molekúl, ktorú by mali byť použité na prípravu hybridných systémov alebo ich vylepšenie v nasledovných projektoch.

Obranné mechanizmy mikrobiálnych a živočíšnych buniek pri znižovaní ich citlivosti na rastlinné defenzné zlúčeniny. Grantová schéma APVV-19-0094, trvanie 07/2020- 06/2024. spoluriešiteľ projektu.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Cieľom projektu je orientácia na výskum vybraných rastlinných látok a ich semisyntetických analógov ako možných nástrojov modulácie proliferácie a životných prejavov mikrobiálnych a neoplastických buniek. Živé bunky vyvinuli niekoľko obranných stratégií proti toxickému pôsobeniu rôznych látok. Toto sa môže považovať za základnú vlastnosť, ktorá umožňuje bunke prežiť v prirodzenom prostredí. Okrem odozvy špecifickej pre rôzne organizmy sa počas evolúcie vyvinuli všeobecné stratégie prítomné v rôznych typoch živých buniek nevynímajúc cicavčie neoplasticky transformované bunky, eukaryotické a prokaryotické mikrobiálne bunky. Projekt sa zaoberá podrobnou analýzou účinkov vybraných rastlinných obranných látok a ich semisyntetických derivátov na neoplastické a mikrobiálne bunky.

Excellence in the research area of Combating and evaluation of mixed biofilms. Grantová schéma Horizont 2020; WIDESPREAD-05-2020; EU projekt 952398, trvanie 12/2020 – 11/2023, spoluriešiteľ projektu projektu

Projekt CEMBO je zameraný na ďalší rozvoj Prírodovedeckej fakulty UK od rešpektovaného národného centra excelentného výskumu po centrum excelentnosti s európskou dimenziou. Zameriava sa na excelentnosť vedcov a výskumných pracovníkov Katedry mikrobiológie a virológie a Katedry fyzikálnej a teoretickej chémie PriF UK s partnermi z Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam, Holandsko a Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Nemecko. Tím z Prif UK bude študovať molekulárne a fyziologické vlastnosti biofilmov tvorených klinicky relevantnými patogénmi - baktériami, ako aj kvasinkami organizovanými v zmiešaných biofilmoch. Hlavnou myšlienkou je vybudovanie medzinárodného centra excelentnosti, pričom táto ambícia si vyžaduje ďalšiu podporu a školenia, ktoré sa získajú spoluprácou s ďalšími známymi medzinárodnými centrami excelentnosti.
