SK-SRB-2016-0001 Zeolite-based adsorbents for environmental

remediation; Slovak-Serbien project of bilateral cooperation; E. Chmielewská - responsible investigator; Slovakia is expected to mine modest amounts of industrial minerals in future beside which the

natural zeolite of clinoptilolite type from the major, Nižný Hrabovec deposit, represents currently

one of the most dominant commodity in the Slovakian export. Based upon a broad variety of

interactions, a good mechanical strength, rigidity and thus convenient sedimentation properties

of zeolite, we design and synthesize new advanced, added value adsorbents composed on one

side from in Slovakia rich high quality zeolitic aluminosilicates and on another side from natural

biopolymers, offering both countries in huge quantities (Serbia potentially also biopolymers from

the sea products). Another technique is metal oxihydroxides immobilization onto zeolite surface

that enlarge the functionality of the used carrier with antimicrobial effect. Expected cooperation

may help to contribute in remediation process of plenty old Slovakian mining localities (about

10% of the whole territory), especially by the salty water decontamination and subsurface

barriers construction as well as to initiate further international cooperation in framework of EU

projects.
