VEGA 1-0061-22 Forms and functions of minimalism in contemporary Slovak poetry. 2022 – 2024.

Principal investigator: doc. Mgr. J. Juhásová, PhD. Catholic University Ružomberku. Co-investigator since 2023: doc. Mgr. J. Šrank, PhD. Annotation. In the space of lyric poetry, it also has the intention to emphasize the very essence of poetry - its brevity and simultaneous layering. We find purposeful work with minimalism in various traditions of poetic creation. In this project we will focus on exploring the forms and functions of minimalism in Slovak post-embassy poetry. The aim is to systematize the relevant theoretical-methodological apparatus as a starting point for working with the text, while at the same time to clarify and analyze the key manifestations and tendencies of poetic minimalism, specific authorial poetics and short genres in the work of Slovak poets after 1989. The topic under study will not only be clarified and differentiated within the frameworks of the aesthetic, but also reflected upon in the space of the ethical and social, since minimalism also represents a productive lifestyle deserving of attention. Outcomes: still in the preparatory phase.

APVV-18-0043 Dictionary of Slovak Literary Works After 1989. 2019 - 2022,

spoluriešiteľ. 1. Investigating organisation: University of Prešov, Principal investigator: doc. Mgr. J. Gavura, PhD. 2. Co-investigating organisation:: Comenius University Bratislava, Co-researcher: doc. Mgr. J. Šrank, PhD.

Annotation:The project focuses on the research of Slovak culture and literature in the period from 1989 to the present. This period represents the last distinguishable stage in the historical, cultural and political periodization of Slovakia and the project, through its summary dictionary character, brings about a synthesis of knowledge about it in reference (in the form of a dictionary) and in context (in the form of an extensive preface in Slovak and English). Paradoxically, by focusing on its native contemporary culture and literature, the project is at the same time a unique project in the world - no one else in the world can cover it better, scientifically or otherwise. At the centre of the research is the subject of Slovak literature, which is the most comprehensive (in number and significance) artistic and social reflection of the situation in Slovakia at the turning points: after the change of the social system, at the time of transformation, and also after the connection to the main ideological and cultural currents within the European Union. The main result of the project is the publication Dictionary of Slovak Literature after 1989, which comprehensively characterises the expressive and semantic coordinates of Slovak culture from 1989 to the present through its major literary works. Special attention is paid to the work of minorities of the Slovak population in other countries (especially Serbia, Romania, Hungary) and to the work of Slovak authors living abroad. VEGA 1/0434/20 Experimental poetry of Milan Adamčiak in the context of Slovak literature of the second half of the 20th century. 2020 - 2022, Principal investigator. The purpose of the project is a literary research of experimental poetry by Milan Adamčiak in the context of Slovak literature of the 2nd half of the 20th century and the experimental poetry movement of the 1960s. The research will be based on the author's books published by M. Murin, but will also carry out material research in main collections of Adamčiak's work. The research will bring an analytical and interpretative reading of Adamčiak's poems with the ambition to achieve an interpretative concept of the author's experimental poetry. The focus on place of Adamčiak's literary work in the sum of his intermediate art, the reconstruction of position of his experimental poetry in Slovak literature and the relation to the experimental poetry movement are the complementary goals. The context will be captured by research of various forms of reception of experimental poetry in Slovak literature. The result will be a comprehensive monograph of the author's contribution to the Slovak literature.

Outcomes: online scientific seminar Milan Adamčiak - experimental poetry - Slovak literature. Date: 9. 12. 2020.Venue: Comenius University Bratislava, Faculty of Education (online, MSTeams).

VEGA 1/0758/16 Motive of Bratislava in Slovak poetry of second half of the 20th century. 2016 – 2018, principal investigator. Annotation: The project will communicate the findings about the forms of Bratislava motives appearing in Slovak poetry and about their functioning in Slovak poetry. The project is based on analytical and interpretative readings of poetical texts of chosen Slovak authors writing in 2nd half of the 20th century. In the first place the Bratislava topoi will be followed in the context of work of chosen poets, the author will consider its semantic and functional involvement in creating specific literary models of a man and world. The author will consider the motives of Bratislava to be pars pro toto for urban motives, which significantly determines Slovak poetry of given period. The research of various forms of depicting the city of Bratislava will bring the findings about different ways of urban conceptualisation in Slovak poetry.
