VEGA 1/0287/17 "Založenie Uhorskej kaplnky v Cáchach kráľom Ľudovítom I. (1360)" [Founding of the Hungarian Chapel in Aachen by King Louis I], vedúci projektu / principal investigator (2017-2019)
ABSTRACT: There is a lack of information in our scientific and cultural community about an important part of our historical heritage. Most of the pilgrims of different nationalities came to Aachen especially at the end of June and the beginning of July, staying there for two weeks. The first report of a pilgrim from Spiš to Aachen in 1307 is confirmed with certainty. Our task will be to investigate the circumstances of the establishment of the Hungarian Chapel (1360) and the role of the various dignitaries and institutions in this process. King Louis I funded the pilgrimage chapel by several charters and established places for two chaplains in it. Pope Gregory XI, Abbot Henry, the town magistrate, the Chapter of Aachen and other secular and ecclesiastical dignitaries also issued several charters for the chapel. Our work will be based on the research of historical sources, their collection, criticism and evaluation.
VEGA 1/0107/20 "Traja králi“ v dejinách Slovenska ["Three Kings" in the history of Slovakia], vedúci projektu / principal investigator (2020-2021)
ABSTRACT: There is a lack of information in our society about an important part of our historical and cultural heritage. The work will be based on the collection of written historical sources and the study of the heritage stock - both tangible and intangible - with analysis, critique and evaluation or interpretation. The aim of our project will be:
1. To present the transfer of the relics of the Three Kings to Cologne, to find out what the legends say about it (Jacobus de Voragine: Legenda Aurea, Johann von Hildesheim: Historia Trium Regum and others).
2. To describe the pilgrimage and wanderings from Slovakia (Hungary) to Cologne in the period from the 13th to the 18th century, i.e. from the time of the establishment of the pilgrimage site until the prohibition of pilgrimages.
3. To study the spread of the cult of the Three Kings in Slovakia (Hungary) from the Middle Ages to the present day, to investigate the origins of the spread of the patronage of churches and chapels.
4. To trace the references to the feast of the Three Kings in old prints, in older literature and fiction from Slovakia, especially in the Baroque period and in the 19th and 20th centuries.
5. Trace the iconography and symbolism of the Three Kings in sacred and secular art, or in folk tradition.
6. To compare the development of the spread of veneration in the Slovak environment with abroad, to look for analogies and differences, or specifics of this process.

ABSTRACT: The research theme of the project is to obtain primary and source data that will create and present a chronological retrospective view of the history of libraries in the digital information space. The research problem is the material documentation of specific manifestations of collection building activities and fundamental moments of libraries' institutionalization. The specific research problem of the project is the visualization of the acquired data through new technologies and their promotion in the context of popularization of science. The general framework goal of the project is based on the recognition that the current level of information and communication technologies provides the means to reconstruct a network of libraries with interactive access for the general public.
APVV-23-0277 "Učebné pomôcky vo výchovno-vzdelávacom procese na Slovensku (16. - 20. storočie)" [Teaching aids in the educational process in Slovakia (16th-20th century)], člen riešiteľského kolektívu / investigator (2024-2027)
ABSTRACT: The teaching aids have been an integral part of the educational process from its beginning. These teaching aids were important helping tool for faster learning and advance of the following generations. It was also the case of Slovakia. This presented interdisciplinary project will focus on the background of Slovak history to the origin and development of selected teaching aids. Due to the current and constantly changing context of the use of various teaching aids, compendiums and handbooks, the developers focus attention to diachronic research and to the characteristics of thought and cognitive processes in education in different types of schools. The researchs will pay attention to the individual stages of the educational process 1526 - 20th cent. They will analyse teaching aids such as textbooks, scripts, atlases, lexicons, encyclopaedias, herbariums, photographs, audio-visual recordings, sound recordings, transparencies, information media, etc. at different arts and types of schools. They prepare a description of their historical development and typology. They characterize and comprehensively examine the role of teaching aids, e.g. in humanistic education, in baroque scholarship, rationalism in the 17th - 18th, positivism in the 19th cent. They will also explain their function and contribution in education during the industrial revolution and urbanization in the 19th - 20th cent., in the ideology of Hlinka's Party, in communist ideology, in the process of democratization, or in developing of the critical thinking at the present. The project will also present idea concepts related to the creation of professional journals in Slovakia, which served scientific research and educational purposes. The project outputs make new knowledge about educational manuals available in an innovative way, aids and compendia and will thus provide a solid basis for the final synthesis on educational resources and their conceptual and didactic basis, which is still lacking in Slovakia.
VEGA 1/0464/24 "Študenti a učitelia zo Slovenska na vybraných nemeckých univerzitách do roku 1945" [Students and Teachers from Slovakia at Selected German Universities until 1945], člen riešiteľského kolektívu / investigator (2025-2027)
ABSTRACT: The aim of our project is to collect data on students and teachers from Slovakia who from the Middle Ages until 1945 studied and possibly later worked at ten selected German universities. These were the most visited schools in Germany by students from Slovakia. In recent years we have started to create a database of students from Slovakia at foreign universities. So far we have data on student numbers only up to 1918. We focus our attention on the following ten universities: Wittenberg, Jena, Halle - merged with Wittenberg University in 1817, Leipzig, Berlin, Munich, Tübingen, Frankfurt/Oder, Göttingen and Altdorf. The project will attempt to answer the fundamental questions: What influence did German university graduates have on Slovak national life? How many of the graduates of these universities returned to Slovakia? Did teachers from Slovakia who worked at German universities retain contacts with their homeland? What influence did these schools have on science and technology development?
