Brief description:
The project maps the current situation of the Spanish language in Europe with a focus on social, cultural and educational factors that determine the demolinguistic development of Spanish. Demographic aspects of the Spanish-speaking community in all European countries are analysed, with the research taking into account native speakers, speakers with limited Spanish competence and learners.
VEGA 1/0618/20 Romance languages and multilingualism. The development of verb tense and aspect in an interlanguage (2020-2022).

Brief description: The aim of the project is to investigate the development of tense and verb tense in the interlanguage of learners of Romance languages. Given that Romance languages are usually acquired as third languages in Slovakia, the research focuses on the development of interlanguage from the perspective of multilingualism. According to a number of studies on multilingualism (e.g., Jessner, 2008; Jessner et al., 2016), multilingual learners are not monolingual, but have specific skills and characteristics that constitute the so-called multilingualism factor (M-factor). However, multilingual learners do not automatically use multilingualism to their advantage, so they may need training in multilingual competence in order to exploit the catalysing effect of the M-factor on interlanguage development. The project is designed as a longitudinal research to investigate the impact of multilingual workshops on the development of the tense and verb-visual system in the interlanguage of students studying Romance languages at the Faculty of Education, Comenius University in Bratislava.
VEGA 1/0563/19 Unknown documents for the history of Slovakia in Italian archives (14th-16th century). (2019 – 2022).

Brief description: The aim of the project is to offer new sources for historical research. The project establishes selection criteria and on the basis of them selects and prepares for publication important, preferably unknown or unpublished sources from archives in Italy from the 14th to 16th century, related to the history of Slovakia. It contributes to the understanding of the sources on regional and European history, its economic, cultural and social processes by making available diplomatic correspondence and diplomatic reports, account books of the Diocese of Esztergom, as well as artistic depictions of the period of the anti-Turkish wars in the territory of Slovakia.
VEGA: 1/0761/24 Children and childhood in Spanish language and literature in the transition to modern society (19th century).

Brief description: The project contributes to the reconstruction of the image of children and childhood in Spain in the transition to modern society (19th century). The main goal is to fill the gap in the knowledge of childhood-related lexis, mapping the lexical-semantic innovations that took place also as a result of changes significantly affecting the lives of children and the discourse on childhood, focusing on texts read by the emerging middle class, primarily periodicals, but also selected literary and literary-pedagogical works. The research will improve the knowledge of Spanish in one of the least studied periods of its history and will enable the exploration of hitherto overlooked aspects of childhood reflection in literary texts in inter-Romance context.
VEGA1/0587/18 The past and perspectives of Hispanic studies in Slovakia (2018-2019).

Brief description: The goal of the project was to map and, based on the context of the time, to evaluate as comprehensively as possible the current state of Hispanic studies in Slovakia. The project mainly focused on the first cultural and literary contacts with the Hispanic world and on the first steps of Slovak Hispanic studies as an independent scientific discipline. The subject of investigation was not only the multifaceted activities of the founding personalities in the fifties of the 20th century, but also the Hispanic activity of lecturers from an external environment in the previous period. The results of the research are a starting point for evaluating the later development of Slovak Hispanistics, its current state and perspectives, providing a basis for subsequent confrontation with the situation in the countries of the Central European area.
