Inclusive Systems Transformation for Migrants Experiencing Disability-Related Disadvantage (2025–2027)

CROSS-ACCESS is an interdisciplinary network aimed at shaping inclusive, participatory, and system-integrated approaches across health, legal, social, and educational systems to better respond to the needs of migrants experiencing disability-related disadvantage. The project brings together expertise in migration, equality, global health, inclusive education, and participatory methods to support institutional transformation towards equitable, accessible, and coordinated solutions. The network collaborates with communities, organisations of persons with disabilities, and experts across countries to develop sustainable practice models and strengthen university capacities within the ENLIGHT alliance.

ENLIGHT+ PROMIGRA

Protecting the Human Rights, Health and Well-being of Migrants in Vulnerable Situations (2025–2026)

Position: Project Lead

Partners: Comenius University Bratislava, Uppsala University, University of Groningen

The project brought together universities in Sweden (Uppsala University), the Netherlands (University of Groningen), and Slovakia (Comenius University Bratislava) in the fields of migration, health, and law. The initiative enabled knowledge exchange, joint planning, and the sharing of good practices. Students participated in workshops fostering creativity and critical thinking. Partners developed and proposed new courses, strengthened research networks, and laid the foundation for joint outputs. The project contributed to strengthening ENLIGHT collaboration in the areas of migration and vulnerable populations.

UNICEF Project

Supporting Social Work Interventions with the Refugee Population and Strengthening the Overall Social Service Workforce Capacity within the Refugee Response in Slovakia (2022–2024)

Position: Project Lead

This national project, supported by UNICEF, focused on strengthening social work interventions and overall workforce capacity in response to the refugee situation in Slovakia. The project delivered training and supervision for more than 400 humanitarian workers, coordinated 50 volunteers, and developed the concept of an Innovation Centre. Key outputs included a sociological analysis of the capacities of the Migration Office, four professional publications, an accredited e-learning platform, and an international conference linking academic research with humanitarian practice.

Integration of Health and Social Care for Patients after Hospital Discharge (2018–2019)

This applied research project addressed systemic gaps between hospital discharge and subsequent social care. It provided an analysis of hospital staffing, discharge processes, and their links to community-based support services, offering evidence for the integration of health and social care systems at the policy level.

doc. PhDr. Pavol Kopinec, PhD., heads the Innovation Centre of the Pedagogical Faculty of Comenius University in Bratislava. His research and project activities deal with the issues of migration and protection of children and vulnerable groups of refugees. He collaborated with the Migration Office of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic and UNHCR on the introduction of a comprehensive system of material and social care for unaccompanied minors and asylum seekers. He was also a member of the European Network of Separated Children in Europe Programme, which focuses on research and protection of separated children. He has acted as a consultant for the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in the framework of capacity building and exchange of good practice of state and public institutions in the field of migration.

During the crisis situation in Ukraine, he led a UNICEF-supported project. The project, in the framework of multidisciplinary cooperation, with the expertise of experts in the field of child work, research, education and volunteer activities, strengthened the interventions and the overall capacity of humanitarian workers.He is an active lecturer at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Bratislava and is the author of several professional publications in the field of asylum and case management.
