EU project from the Cross-border Cooperation Program SR-AT - Interreg, Nutriaging V-014: Nutrition and Healthy Aging (2016-2021);

The aim of the project is to search for markers of "healthy aging" in experimental conditions at the cellular and animal level (Bratislava) and in a human study with seniors placed in facilities for the elderly (Vienna), which would assess the impact of lifestyle - dietary habits (consumption of omega-3 fatty acid, vitamins and other nutrients) and physical activity on the mental and physical condition of the elderly.

VEGA 1/0665/19: Influence of selected nutrients (proteins and vitamin D) and exercise on molecular mechanisms of sarcopenia (2019-2022);

principal investigator

The aim of the project is to study the effects of combined intervention (supplementation with selected nutrients (vitamin D and proteins) and exercise) on molecular mechanisms of sarcopenia in experimental models (animal experiment, cell cultures) through analysis of biochemical and inflammatory parameters, markers of oxidative stress and selected signaling molecules. in muscles that could play an important role in the pathophysiology of sarcopenia.

 EU project from the Cross-border Cooperation Programme Interreg V -A SR-AT: Strengthening cross-border cooperation in the field of prevention of neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) with a focus on nutrition and exercise (BrainHealth) (2025-2027);

responsible researcher for SR

The main objective of the project is to comprehensively focus on the issue of brain aging and the increasing incidence of NDD in seniors through the development of innovative preventive and diagnostic approaches. The project aims to identify early functional, biochemical and molecular markers of the development of neurodegenerative processes, clarify the mechanisms leading to damage and repair of aging cells of the nervous system and verify the effectiveness of targeted nutritional intervention and physical activity as prevention tools.

The main objective also includes the development and implementation of a cross-border NDD prevention strategy and the preparation of specific action plans aimed at healthcare professionals, seniors and the future aging population. The project will thus contribute to strengthening early diagnosis, reducing the health and economic burden associated with NCDs, and supporting healthy aging of the population in the participating regions.

Contract project with Horphag Research (Europe) Ltd., Limassol, Cyprus (QR2019-01); Effect of French oak wood extract (Robuvit®) on muscle mass in seniors (RobuSar project) (2024-2026);

principal investigator

The aim of the project is to determine the effect of 6 weeks of Robuvit administration at a dose of 300 mg/day and the subsequent combination of Robuvit with strength-endurance training (12 weeks) on muscle mass, muscle strength, muscle performance, metabolic and mitochondrial parameters in seniors in a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The project aims to evaluate physical, biochemical and molecular markers of muscle growth, energy homeostasis and mitochondrial function to determine the extent to which Robuvit and its combination with exercise support skeletal muscle health and functional capacity in older people.

APVV-15-0308: Molecular-pharmacological approaches to innovative therapy of rheumatoid arthritis evaluated in experimental conditions in vivo and in vitro (2016-2020); principal investigator for CU MF

The aim of the project is to obtain information about the therapeutic potential of substances with immunomodulatory and antioxidant properties for RA therapy, especially combination therapy with MTX and to find out the mechanisms of action of substances regulating redox balance in biochemical and immunological processes accompanying arthritis at intra- and extracellular level.
