"UC grant for young scientists"

Title: Social dignity of people with multiple sclerosis in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic (UC/126/2021)

Brief description of the project: The main aim was to explore social dignity of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The research sample were 2 participants with MS contacted through institution of the Slovak Multiple Sclerosis Association (SZSM), which had to meet the set inclusive criteria criteria (MS, diagnosis of MS for at least 3 years, active membership in SZSM and signed informed consent). For the collection of empirical data were used semi-structured face-to-face interviews with a protocol. An interpretative phenomenological analysis was adopted (IPA), which was also chosen on the basis that IPA is idiographic, and thus suitable for case studies, which reflects the problem with small number of participants, which was caused by the pandemic situation. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Jessenius Faculty of Comenius University (decision of the Ethics Committee 60/2020).

Project outputs: Active participation in the 2nd International Conference of PhD Students of the Nursing Study Program in České Budějovice: Anita's struggle for dignity: an interpretive phenomenological case study of a woman with multiple sclerosis. Active participation in the 17th scientific conference doctoral students of JLF UK in Martin: Preparation of an interview protocol using interpretive phenomenological analysis. Active participation in the 3rd International Conference of PhD Students of the Nursing Study Program in Martin: Dignity of woman with multiple sclerosis during the COVID-19 pandemic : an interpretative phenomenological analysis case study.

Participation in the scientific project (co-worker)

Title: Trust in the relationship between patients with chronic illness and healthcare professionals: an interpretative phenomenological analysis (VEGA 1/0276/21)

Brief description of the project: In accordance with the aim of the project, the experience of patients with chronic cardiovascular and gastrointestinal illnesses (two homogeneous groups of participants) with trust in healthcare professionals (physicians and nurses) was described and interpreted. Group experience themes and their subthemes formed the starting point of the interpretative framework and provided an insight into the aspects that influence the phenomenon of trust between patients and healthcare professionals and the difference between trust towards physicians and nurses. The obtained results describe the effect of trust on patients' lives and managing their illness. The aims of the project, as planned in the grant application, were met. As part of the project, several studies were carried out, which demonstrate the fulfillment of the planned aims of the project.

Project outputs: 1x article indexed in Current Contents in a international journal; 1x article indexed in Current Contents in a domestic journal; 1x article indexed in WoS or SCOPUS in a domestic journal; 7 international conference abstracts; 5x domestic conference abstract. Outputs accepted for publication: 1x article indexed in WoS or SCOPUS in a domestic journal.
