KEGA č. 016UK-4/2021 Standardized Patient in Midwifery
Summary
A standardized patient is a method using a individuals who are specially trained to portray the roles of patients. Midwives meet in their routine practise, a number of different clinical tasks in practice, but also with various emotions of women in the prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum period, and adequate communication with a woman in these periods also plays an important role in their future profession. An effort of undergraduate education, is to best prepare students for practice, and to eliminate the student's potential unprofessional approach to the patient. Due to the increasingly difficulties contact of the student with the patient, it is important to implement this innovative form of teaching into undergraduate educaion of midwives in our conditions, including among the emotional aspect and the possibility of practicing communication with the patient with direct feedback too.
The aim of the presented project is the creation and implementation of standardized patients, as well as the creation of multimedia records using this method in order to support interactive and effective education, and at the same time support distance education in this study program
projekt: VEGA 1/0211/19 Psychosocial factors associated with the postpartum depression and screening methods for depression in the postpartum period. (2019-2021)
Summary:
Postpartum depression is a serious health problem, which according to current data, affects almost a fifth of women after birth and its incidence tends to rise. Postpartum depression have significant negative impact on the overall quality of life of a woman, process of the adaptation to motherhood, and it can also negatively affect the formation of the safe mother-child attachment. There is still insufficient attention paid to the prevention, screening and adequate treatment of postpartum depression in Slovakia. The main aim of the research project is to examine the relationship between psychosocial factors (partner support, perceived stress, birth satisfaction) and depressive symptomatology among postpartum women. Another aim of the project is to explore the association between postpartum depression and the quality of maternal-child attachment. The research project also plans to validate the Slovak version of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and to examine its psychometric properties.
KEGA č. 025UK-4/2018 Multimedia support in the education of midwifery (virtual patient)
Summary
The project is focused on multimedia support of teaching in midwifery through the creation of virtual patients with multimedia connections. The freely available OpenLabyrinth platform was used for the creation. As part of the project, the researchers (teachers working directly in the teaching department of midwifery) created six original virtual patients for the study of midwifery in the field of midwifery, hygiene, psychology and nutrition. Each virtual patient was enriched with images, photo documentation, videos and animations that were inserted into the platform. In addition, they contain references to hypertexts that allow the student to connect with another medium at a given moment, which will enrich his knowledge or demonstrations of the procedure, intervention, etc. Individual virtual patients are publicly available through an open web platform for any colleges or universities with a midwifery degree program.
VEGA č. 1/0286/22 Comprehensive profiling of female hormone-dependent cancers for early diagnosis, targeted personalized therapy and prediction of disease recurrence
Summary
The sex hormones estrogens have several important physiological roles in the female body. However, the activity of estrogens is also influenced by cancers termed as hormone-sensitive/endocrine or hormone-dependent tumors. In women, specific subtypes of breast, ovarian, and endometrial tumors are included in this group. This group is still one of the most frequently occurring gynaecological malignancies worldwide, although in recent years the mortality trend for these malignancies has been decreasing, thanks to the development of innovative disease-modifying drugs. However, adverse and sometimes life-threatening side effects, resistance to treatment and recurrence of the disease remain a problem. The present project focuses on the comprehensive biological characterization of hormone-dependent tumors in women, detailing the mechanisms and interactions of genetic and metabolomic factors with lifestyle. The results of the project will provide new insights for accurate diagnosis, specific treatment and early detection of possible recurrence.
