2023, RESPLAIN. Research and Response: Plain Language in Administrative Communication with Refugees,
UNHCR project SVK01/2023/0000000051
The project seeks to improve access to information and communication for asylum seekers and refugees benefiting from services provided by public entities in the territory of Slovakia. The repository of plain version documents will include selected documents based on the research results, starting from the border, asylum and temporary-protection related procedures, access to rights and services in relation to these procedures. Translators and interpreters who provide PSIT, often lack professional preparation, and they cannot participate in continuous, systematic education. Even if some are interested in taking the specialization courses, the courses either do not exist or are not offered in their language combination or the sector specialization of their choice. This project addresses these gaps by interdisciplinary research, identification of relevant forms and target languages, plain language provision of most used forms in the state institutions, and trainings of community interpreters.
Moral assessments of national, ethnic and religious groups in situations of threat, 1/0203/23, 2023-2025
The aim of the project is an ethnographic probe into the issue of moral reasoning about the 'other' in the current socio-political situation. The research will focus on the analysis of statements containing national, ethnographic and religious categories in relation to moral judgements and observed types of behaviour in times of crisis.
Moral narratives about religious and ethnic groups in the teaching of selected subjects in primary schools, 1/0194/20, 2020-2022, team member. Role: Research on the forms of moral evaluations that are part of the teaching of selected subjects related to culture and society. Addresses questions related to representing the causal connection between the course of specific events and specific characteristics of ethnic and religious groups.
Symbolic representations of risk, VEGA 1/0421/17; 2017-2019; team member. The project was aimed to explore public representations of risk in various spheres of social life in Slovakia. The research applied the theoretical perspective of symbolic anthropology to the representations of risk in three basic domains of social life: family, generations and education; health and disease; space/environment.
