Project Title: Textile Production in Žilina and Its Surroundings. Grant Scheme: Slovak Arts Council. Duration: 01/2024 – 12/2024. Role: Principal Investigator (PI). Project Description: The aim of the project was to prepare a modern exhibition presenting the results of the Považie Museum's research in the field of the history of textile production in Žilina and its surroundings. In the past, Žilina was a city with a high concentration of cloth-making guilds. In 1891, a modern textile factory was established there, which at the time became the most modern cloth factory in the entire Kingdom of Hungary. During the Slovak State, the most famous Slovak clothing brand, Makyta, built its first factory in Žilina, and in the 1950s, the well-known textile plant Modex emerged there, which at the time was the only enterprise in the Central Slovak Region to also produce children's clothing and sell it in its own shop. Based on the research and acquisition activities of the Považie Museum and with the help of digital technologies, the exhibition illustrated textile production in Žilina across the centuries and its impact on local social life.
Project Title: Temples of the Industrial Age. Grant Scheme: Slovak Arts Council. Duration: 01/2023 – 12/2023. Role: Principal Investigator (PI). Project Description: The aim of the project was to prepare a modern exhibition presenting the phenomenon of the factory using the example of Žilina. In the 19th century, factories became not only production units bringing capital and economic development to the region but also specific spaces that co-shaped local social life. The ethos of new production, based on organization and rationalization, was also transferred to the individual, influencing all aspects of their existence. Therefore, the factory can be considered a civilizational phenomenon that brought about a fundamental change in human thinking and social relations. Based on the research and acquisition activities of the Považie Museum and with the help of digital technologies, the exhibition illustrated how the establishment of factories affected Žilina, its wider surroundings, and life within it.
