VEGA 1/0801/20: Formálna a obsahová analýza hovorovej latinskej reči v neskorej antike na podklade kazateľskej činnosti Aurelia Augustina [Formal and content analysis of the spoken Latin language in Late Antiquity against the background of Augustine's preaching activity]. (2020-2022) - principal investigator.
The goal of the project is the analysis of Augustine's homilies, which are a record of real speech, and the subsequent determination of principles for translators that will help make authentic Latin speech accessible using stylistic devices, especially sound figures in the national language with regard to the current recipient. The final stage will be an audio recording that will introduce Augustine's preaching skills in Slovak. A fundamental contribution is a new approach to the formal side of Augustine's homilies, which until now has not been systematically addressed by anyone. Therefore, a completely new level of investigation of Augustine's delivered sermons can be opened. The output of the project will be the formulation of professional approaches to translation, which will be valid not only for the Slovak language environment, but also in an adapted form outside of it, and two key monographs dedicated to two collections of Augustine's sermons enriched by the translation of these homilies in accordance with the presented principles, which will at least partially fill the existing lacuna in the field of research on colloquial Latin in late antiquity.

[Innovative teaching materials for the upcoming interdisciplinary study programme „History - Classical languages“. Dissemination of didactic and promotional materials regarding ancient Roman civilization in a broader cultural context.] (2018-2020) - principal investigator
The project is focused on the development of innovative teaching aids for the upcoming interdisciplinary study program "History - Classical Languages". The project aims to innovate the existing teaching texts, which, due to their obsolescence and inappropriate didactic approach, do not meet the current requirements. The main output of the project will be a modern university textbook under the title "The Civilization of Ancient Rome: Questions and Challenges for the Present", which will offer a new perspective on those aspects of the daily life of Roman citizens, which also have a response in the key questions and challenges of contemporary European society. Complementary materials to the textbook will be two university scripts "History of Latin education in the context of European education" and "Names of offices and political and administrative realities in the languages of ancient Italy", which will become the basic teaching material for two new subjects taught within the planned interdisciplinary study program. The project developers will develop interactive tests focused on the civilization of ancient Rome and make them available on the website of the Department of Classical and Semitic Philology for other interested parties. In the final phase of the project, the project managers will organize a seminar for teachers of universities or secondary schools with the aim of becoming familiar with innovative teaching materials and exchanging experiences in the field of ancient realities. Individual material outputs will also help in building the upcoming interdisciplinary study program and will help the researchers in their further professional growth with regard to the upcoming habilitation.
Last but not least, the goal of the researchers is to make the results of the project available in a wider cultural and educational framework through cooperation with Slovak Radio RTVS and the Museum of the City of Bratislava - Gerulata and also in the premises of the university library of the Catholic University in Ružomberok. The focus of this cooperation will be a series of radio broadcasts on the topic "The Roman Empire as the predecessor of the European Union" and the organization of an exhibition connected with the presentation of the project's outputs in the premises of the Gerulata Museum for the public. Through these outputs, a wider audience will be addressed and the project will thus contribute to meeting the educational needs of our citizens in a wider social framework.

APVV-17-0001: Komentár ku Knihe žalmov II a III. (Commentary on the Book of Psalms II and III) (2018-2021) - researcher
The role in the project: Patristic commentaries on Psalms 101-118 and on Psalm 119. Project description: Individual excerpts of the biblical text are processed according to the following scheme: In the first part, translations from the Hebrew and Greek originals are presented. The second part is intended for a narrow circle of connoisseurs of Hebrew and Greek and contains a philological analysis and comparison of the Hebrew and Greek texts. The third part is intended for the general public and its aim is to provide an interpretation of individual verses and less comprehensible expressions. In this section, not only modern interpretations are given, but also those of rabbis, church fathers and classics of spirituality. The fourth part offers the reader a comprehensive understanding of the state and its dynamics. The aim of the last part is to show how the given state can be used for the needs of theology, pastoral care and liturgy in Slovakia.

VEGA 1/0644/24: Reflection of ancient motifs in the medieval plays of the first woman dramatist Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim (2024-2027) - principal investigator
This project aims to produce a monograph and the first Slovak translation of six of Latin plays written by medieval dramatist Hrotsvitha, the very first known female playwright in the hist. of drama and literature. She is largely unknown to the Slovak public or to much of the acad. community as it is apparent from the lack of research done in the field of her writings and poetry. None of her work has been officially translated. The central ambition of the monograph is to introduce Hrotsvitha’s creative spirit and take a close look at her life and circumstances that led her to writing dramatic pieces. Focus will be on the borders between her creative invention and the influences of contemporary trends and genres, which she adopted in her oeuvre. The research team will explore Hrotsvitha's language and reflect on the ancient and biblical motives with later reception of her work. The project will be a wider introduction of Hrotsvitha and her Christian and ancient heritage by the means of a stage and radio plays.
