VEGA 1/0801/20: Formálna a obsahová analýza hovorovej latinskej reči v neskorej antike na podklade kazateľskej činnosti Aurelia Augustina / Formal and content analysis of the spoken Latin language in Late Antiquity against the background of Augustine's preaching activity (2020-2022) - principal investigator

The aim of the project is to analyze Augustine's homilies which reflect the real speech and consequently define principles for translators which help make accessible authentic Latin speech with the use of stylistic means, mainly some figures in the Slovak language with regard to modern recipients. Final phase will be sound records of Augustine's homilies in the Slovak language illustrating his preaching art. The main contribution is the new approach toward formal aspect of Augustine's homilies which has not been dealt with systematically so far. Therefore it may open a new level of examinig Augustine's preached homilies. The project output will be the definition of principles of the translation applicable not only in the Slovak environment but in adapted form also elsewhere, as well as 2 monographs devoted to 2 series of Augustine's homilies accompanied by the translation of these homilies in accordance with the defined principles.

KEGA č. 032UK-4/2025: Návrat k rozprávaniu antických mýtov vo vzdelávaní: podcast ako efektívny nositeľ hovoreného mýtu. / A return to ancient myth-telling in education: the podcast as an effective vehicle for the spoken myths.

The project has the ambition to use the podcast as a unique distribution platform with extensive potential for quality education, for popularization of ancient culture, especially Greek mythology, and for its subsequent integration into the teaching process at university and secondary school levels in particular. Within the framework of interdisciplinary research, the project aims to extend the knowledge of classical Greek mythology among younger generations in an engaging way, with the emphasis on the interpretation of the myth and the overlap of individual mythological narratives with the present day culture which can lead to a better understanding of the behaviour of individuals, but also, in a broader context, to the understanding of social and cultural norms of contemporary society. In addition to a series of 30 planned podcasts, a textbook on ancient mythology will be published, which will fill existing lacuna in Slovakia in the field. Although it will primarily reflect the needs and requirements of higher education programmes in which ancient mythology is taught either as a core or supplementary subject, it will also be accessible to a wider group of university and secondary school teachers or students, and as such, together with the podcast series, it will be also applicable in pedagogical-psychological practice. At the same time, it will be a modern and practical student's guide to the world of ancient myths helping contemporary people better understand themselves as well as the world around us. The output with an outreach to a wide group of users will be interactive publicly accessible online tests with mythological themes. An integral part of the project is also the presentation of knowledge related to the researched topic at scientific and professional events both at home and abroad.

APVV-17-0001: Komentár ku Knihe žalmov II a III. (2018-2021) - spoluriešiteľka

Project assignment: Patristic commentaries on Psalms 101-118 and Psalm 119. Project description: Individual excerpts of the biblical text are processed according to the following scheme: The first part presents translations from the Hebrew and Greek originals. The second part is intended for a narrow circle of experts in Hebrew and Greek and contains a philological analysis and comparison of the Hebrew and Greek text. The third part is intended for a wider audience and its goal is to provide an interpretation of individual verses and less understandable expressions. This part presents not only modern interpretations, but also those of rabbis, church fathers and classics of spirituality. The fourth part offers the reader a holistic understanding of the text and its dynamics. The aim of the last part is to show how the given text can be used for the needs of theology, pastoral care and liturgy in Slovakia.

VEGA 1/0644/24: Reflexia antických motívov v stredovekých hrách prvej ženskej dramatičky Hrotsvity z Gandersheimu / Reflection of ancient motifs in the medieval plays of the first woman dramatist Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim. (2024-2027) - principal investigator

This project aims to produce a monograph and the first Slovak translation of six of Latin plays written by medieval dramatist Hrotsvitha, the very first known female playwright in the hist. of drama and literature. She is largely unknown to the Slovak public or to much of the acad. community as it is apparent from the lack of research done in the field of her writings and poetry. None of her work has been officially translated. The central ambition of the monograph is to introduce Hrotsvitha’s creative spirit and take a close look at her life and circumstances that led her to writing dramatic pieces. Focus will be on the borders between her creative invention and the influences of contemporary trends and genres, which she adopted in her oeuvre. The research team will explore Hrotsvitha's language and reflect on the ancient and biblical motives with later reception of her work. The project will be a wider introduction of Hrotsvitha and her Christian and ancient heritage by the means of a stage and radio plays.
