VI.5 - Participation in conducting (leading) the most important research projects or art projects over the last six years
1

Project number: APVV-15-0308

Project title: Molecular-pharmacological approaches to innovative rheumatoid therapy

arthritis evaluated in experimental conditions

Responsible researcher for SAS: PharmDr. Katarina Bauerova, CSc.

Investigator for the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic: doc. RNDr. Ingrid Tumova, CSc.

Project solution period: 2016-2020

Brief annotation of results:

The focus of the project is the study of the therapeutic potential of selected substances for therapy rheumatoid arthritis (RA), especially for combination therapy with methotrexate.

2

Project type: VEGA

Project number: 2/0044/2015

Project title: Research into the influence of inflammation, chronic autoimmune response and redox regulation of the organism in experimental arthritis using new substances for adjuvant therapy of rheumatoid arthritis.

Responsible researcher for SAS: PharmDr. Katarina Bauerova, DrSc.

Co-researcher: doc. RNDr. Ingrid Tumova, CSc.

Brief annotation of results:

The project aims to reveal the unknown mechanisms of etiopathogenesis of RA, up to the level of expression of important Ntf2 and NF-kappa B genes involved in the regulation of inflammation and redox balance of the organism. For this purpose, we will use an experimental model of RA, namely adjuvant arthritis (AA) induced in Lewis rats. The AA breakdown will be characterized by parameters describing immunological, oxidative and inflammatory processes. In this model, in combination with an acute model (carrageenan-induced inflammation) and cell culture (BV-2 mouse microglia stimulated with inflammation), we evaluate the antirheumatic effect of substances that have not been studied in a rat model of adjuvant arthritis (antioxidants: astaxanthin, troloxolol, carnozole). selected phytochemicals and extracts. The most effective of the studied substances will then be combined with methotrexate. The expected benefit is to increase the effectiveness of methotrexate without increasing the risk of side effects.
