EUnetHTA Joint Action 3 (2016 - 2021): The aim of the project was to define and implement a sustainable model for scientific and technical cooperation in health technology assessment (HTA) in Europe. HTA is a multidisciplinary process that uses explicit methods to determine the value of healthcare technology at various points in its life cycle. The purpose is to inform decision-making processes in order to promote a fair, efficient and high-quality healthcare system. Medical technology is an intervention developed to prevent, diagnose or treat medical conditions; health promotion; provision of rehabilitation; or organizing the provision of healthcare. An intervention can be a test, device, drug, vaccine, procedure, program, or system. The process is formal, systematic and transparent, and state-of-the-art evidence is used to consider the best available methods. The dimensions of value for health technology can be assessed by examining the intended and unintended consequences of using health technology in comparison with existing alternatives. These dimensions often include clinical efficacy, safety, cost and economic implications, ethical, social, cultural, legal issues, organizational, environmental aspects, as well as broader implications for the patient, relatives, carers and the population. The overall value may vary depending on the perspective, stakeholders and context of decision-making. HTA can be applied at various points in the life cycle of a medical technology, ie before it is placed on the market, during its approval, after it is placed on the market and after the disinvestment of the medical technology. This project has set up an effective European network bringing together HTA agencies, research institutions and ministries of health, enabling effective information exchange and decision support on the use of health technologies in EU Member States. 81 organizations from 29 countries participated in the cooperation.
Central and Eastern European Pharmaco-Epidemiology (CEEPHE) Data Research Group, which succeeded in 2021 on the basis of a tender (EMA / 2020/46 / TDA - Quality, efficacy and safety studies on medicines) to support regulatory decision-making in the regulatory field of medicinal products for human use, which was sent to the European Medicines Agency (EMA). CEEPHE can make a vital contribution to addressing the quality, efficacy and safety of medicines from real clinical practice during the 4-year period of the European Medicines Agency project (EMA / 2020/46 / TDA - Quality, efficacy and safety studies on medicines). The results of analyzes of data from various health registries and health insurance companies, which we refer to as Real World Data (RWD), can significantly improve knowledge about the safety and efficacy of new drugs. RWD data should be considered as complementary information that complements the results of a clinical trial of drugs. As this case involves cooperation within several member states of the European Union, the above statistical and epidemiological analyzes will improve the decision-making processes for reimbursement of medicines from public health insurance not only in the Slovak Republic but also within the member states of the European Union.
The European Surveillance of Antimicrobial Consumption Network (ESAC-Net), which is a Europe-wide network of national surveillance systems providing European reference data on the consumption of antimicrobials. Since 2011, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has been responsible for coordinating the collection of antibiotic consumption data from EU / EEA countries and uses the European Antimicrobial Consumption Monitoring Network (ESAC-Net). This role of the ECDC is supported by Decision No. 1082/2013 / EU on serious cross-border threats to health.
APVV-18-0425: Entry and competition on regulated markets: functioning of the Slovak pharmaceutical market (2019 - 2023).
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Faculty of National Economy of the University of Economics in Bratislava and is focused on reviewing competition, market entry and regulation of the pharmaceutical market in Slovakia. In addition to gaining specific knowledge about the functioning of the Slovak pharmacy market, the project contributes in several ways to the current state of knowledge from a global perspective. Spatial interactions between individual pharmacies are explicitly modeled in the project. The project also deals with substitution and complementary relationships in the pharmaceutical market and its interactions with healthcare providers. In addition, the effects of different types of regulation on companies' market entry and location decisions are modeled.
VEGA 1/0024/21: Possibilities of pharmacoepidemiological analysis of adherence to preventive pharmacotherapy in elderly patients with peripheral arterial disease of the lower extremities.
The project is implemented in cooperation with the Institute of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Comenius University in Bratislava. Peripheral arterial disease of the lower extremities (PAO) leads to ischemia and thrombotic complications in the arterial artery of the extremities and is accompanied by an increased risk of cardiovascular events. Secondary prevention of PAOs involves the treatment of modifiable risk factors (arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia) and the administration of antiplatelet agents, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and statins. The basic precondition for the success of secondary prevention is the adherence of patients to prescribed drugs. The aim of the project is a pharmacoepidemiological analysis of the adherence of elderly patients with PAO to preventive pharmacotherapy at the level of implementation and persistence. We identify patient factors that affect the risk of non-persistence and poor implementation as assessed by the "proportion of days covered by treatment" parameter. The obtained results will make it possible to define groups of patients who require increased attention in terms of improving their adherence to prescription drugs.
