Project title: Experimental study of effects of maternal and/ or antidepressant treatment during gestation and lactation on maternal health and offspring development

Principal investigator: Dubovický Michal RNDr, CSc, CEM SAV, ÚEFT

Co-investigator: Bogi, rod. Császár Eszter, Mgr., PhD. CEM SAV, ÚEFT

Co-investigator: Stankovičová Tatiana, doc., MUDr. CSc, FaF UK, Bratislava, KFT

The estimated prevalence of depression during pregnancy and lactation ranges from 13-20%, The most commonly prescribed antidepressants during this period are antidepressants from the SSRI and SNRI groups. nevertheless treatment during gestation and lactation raises several questions, which are mainly related to the safety of these psychiatric drugs. Therefore, drugs from different groups which could be safer are intensively searched.. Among newer drugs bupropion, a noradrenaline and dopamine reiuptake inhibitor, and mirtazapine cross the blood-brain and placental barrier and pass into the milk in lower concentrations as SSRI and SNRI. They maybe more appropriate for treating of maternal depression. However, there are not enough well-controlled studies examining safety of these drugs to dveloping fetus and neonate.

Project title: Healthy Life Style, a part of Pregradual Education of Pharmacy Students

Principal investigator: Martina Tibenská, PaeD. ,PhD.

Co-investigator: Stankovičová Tatiana, assoc. prof., MD. CSc, FaF UK, KFT

The aim of the project is to modernize compulsorily-optional subjects realized at Faculty of Pharmacy, Comenius University in Bratislava (FPh CU) in compliance with up to date requirements of modern European pharmaceutical education. Master study at its present form insufficiently reflects the newest public healthcare oriented requirements of European directive 2013/55 about regulated occupations. It sets, that graduate from pharmaceutical studies, who conducts pharmaceutical worker occupation in EU, shall be fully qualified to professionally contribute to local and state-wide campaigns in the area of public health. Despite the fact that many of the subjects in present education course at FPh CU are addressing this new pharmaceutical competence in the area of public healthcare (at least marginally), at this time none of them is directly designated to this professional dimension. That is exactly the why the rendered project fullfils the urgent need to create and implement two modern compulsorily-optional subjects into pre-gradual education of Pharmacy students in Slovakia: “Physical Activity and Healthy Diet” and “Regeneration and Psycho-Hygiene Education”. These subjects would compose together with recently implemented subject at FPh CU – “Public Health Support” a compact interdisciplinary set in Pharmacy students´ education in the area of public health. They thus represent a next step towards modernisation of education course “Pharmacy”. Ambition of the two newly-composed subjects of interdisciplinary nature, lectured by the Department of Physical Education and Sports, FPh CU in a cooperation with the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, FPh CU is to set up complex and high-quality education of students in an area of: a) physical activity and healthy diet, b) regeneration and psycho-hygiene. Subjects which are to be prepared within the project´s framework have an aim to provide students with basics to comprehend and interrelate information in the area of public health support. The ambition is also to provide professional knowledge necessary for acquiring educational competence of Pharmacy students in the area of health education, self-healthcare, body health education, physical development, and in relation of endurance and health, by the way of theoretical and practical knowledge. A student shall adopt health protection and fortifying methods, prevention principles concerning content, factors and options to realize healthy life style in practice.
