The aim of the project was to investigate the influence of extracts of selected plants and their contents on some important factors in the aetiopathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and to explain the positive effects of these plants observed in the framework of the grant tasks in previous years: VEGA 1/0145/10 and 1/0646/14.

APVV-16-0207: Genistein and estrogen signaling: a promising molecule improving wound healing in postmenopausal women?

In this project, the effect of the isoflavone genistein on different models of wound healing in ovarectomized rats in vivo and on cells (fibroblasts, keratinocytes, endothelial cells) involved in wound healing in vitro was investigated. Understanding these biological events may help to improve wound healing therapies especially in postmenopausal women.

APVV-20-0017: Development of an active wound cover based on an antibacterial hydrogel containing a plant extract that stimulates healing.

The project aims to develop hydrogels containing natural substances in order to create active wound coverings for healthy and diabetic patients. The research will focus on finding the optimal technology for the preparation of hydrogels and insoluble matrices, incorporation of active substances, focusing on the plant extracts of burdock in the form of micro- and nanoparticles in order to make the therapy more effective. These active wound coverings will also be tested in combination with antimicrobial-acting low-molecular-weight agents. The project will progress from basic in vitro testing to animal studies.
