Abstract

Meso -2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) forms stable complexes with a remarkable wide range of metal ions. This relatively small molecule has attracted increasing attention in the field of radiopharmacy, treatment of heavy metal intoxications and nanoparticles preparation. In this review detailed summary of all physical, chemical and biological properties of DMSA and its complex compounds with 99m Tc, 186/188 Re, 166 Ho, 177 Lu and 90 Y is provided. The clinical utilisation of DMSA complexes in the nuclear medicine and its use for treatment of heavy metal intoxication is briefly summarised. The aspects of its application in the field of nanoparticles preparation is behind the scope of this review, therefore it is only shortly described.

Thin layers of grey arsenic: a molecular orbital study

Autori

R Boča, P Hajko, L' Benco, I Benkovský, D Faktor

Czechoslovak journal of physics

43, 813-819

Abstract

A thin layer of grey arsenic has been manufactured by molecular beam epitaxy and its He(I) photoelectron spectrum has been recorded. The quasi-relativistic CNDO/1 method has been used to investigate the band structure of {As}114 and {As}228 clusters: the DOS profiles and their projections are under question. These data were correlated with the periodic crystal orbitals of the EHT quality. The first excitation energy serves as a better estimate of the energy gap between the filled valence band and the empty conduction band.

Importance of DMSA stability, its consequence for Sn(DMSA)2 complex formation and relevance to 99mTc-DMSA radipharmacs preparation

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry

Springer Netherlands

Abstract

The dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) stability at pH = 3.8, 7.1, 8.8 and the interaction with SnCl2·2H2O were investigated. The degradation of DMSA is the most significant at alkali pH. There where observed oxidized and dimerized forms of DMSA and fumaric acid presence. Progress of instability is less substantial and slower under neutral reaction conditions. At acidic pH the concentration of soluble DMSA decreases with the time. The ligand forms with SnCl2 complex under alkali pH = 8.8 and its chemical formula was determined as Sn(DMSA)2.

99m Tc-DMSA complex preparation: the effect of pH and tin(II) chloride amount on reaction

2010/4/1

Journal of radioanalytical and nuclear chemistry

284, 1, 231-237

Akadémiai Kiadó, co-published with Springer Science+ Business Media BV, Formerly Kluwer Academic Publishers BV

Abstract

Labelling of meso -2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) with technetium-99m was reinvestigated. Dependence of the 99m Tc-DMSA complex formation on the molar ratio of DMSA:reducing agent (SnCl 2 ·2H 2 O) and pH was studied. Five different types of 99m Tc-DMSA complexes were determined. Especially three different complexes were established in the clinically used and prepared DMSA kit labelled with 99m Tc under alkaline condition. This radiopharmaceutical is used as imaging agent of the primary medullary carcinoma in the thyroid gland and different metastasis types. The existence of all complexes was observed by paper chromatography, paper electrophoresis and high performance liquid chromatography.

Thin layers of gallium-arsenide: A molecular orbital study

R Boča, I Benkovský, L Benco

1992/10

Czechoslovak journal of physics

42,1005-1013

Kluwer Academic Publishers

Popis

The quasirelativistic INDO/1 method has been used to generate molecular orbitals for some {GaAs}n clusters up to 160 atoms. On the basis of these one-electron energy levels the density of states (DOS) and density of hole functions have been calculated. Various projections of DOS functions are discussed. The calculations are compared with those generated by periodic crystal orbitals of the EHT quality and with experimental ESCA spectra on thin layers of GaAs.

Abstract

The environment in the area of 40× 80 km 2 of the Michalovce district in Slovakia with 200000 inhabitants has a 60-year-old ecological burden from the period of PCB production in Chemko Strážske. For> 20 years, the spatial monitoring of PCB concentrations in environmental components, such as sediments of watercourses and reservoirs, soil, and air has been systematically performed.

Great attention was paid to the spatial distribution of specific PCB congeners determined based the measurements of the concentration of 15 PCB congeners in the blood serum of adults, children, and couples of mothers and children born in 2001–2003. These were long-term residents living up to 70 km in north and up to 50 km in south from the former PCB Chemko Strážske production plant in the Michalovce district. The concentrations of PCB congeners in inhabitants’ blood were indirectly related to the distance of their residence from the source of pollution. Congener-specific risk factors were derived, in particular, for PCB congeners 52 and 153.
