Project: Sport-specific and fitness-oriented performance testing and reporting. VEGA MŠVVaM SR a SAV, Category B, No. 1/0725/23, Duration: 1/2023 – 12/2025

Characteristics: Within the project, we designed or modified tests for assessing motor abilities with regard to the specific requirements of the given sport, as well as the performance and age characteristics of the tested population. We verified their methodology, including reliability, validity and sensitivity, which proved to be sufficient to distinguish individuals of different ages and levels of physical fitness. We also specified the method of reporting and interpreting test results to facilitate their implementation into practice. However, we pointed out the negative effect of learning on the test result when it is repeated. Test performance is also affected by fatigue caused by sport-specific or general, longer-lasting load. Its impact can be reduced by using exercises focused on the given ability. We identified limiting factors of performance in individual tests, which allow athletes to focus on their development. By monitoring changes in relevant performance variables, the effectiveness of training can be assessed.

Project: Assessment of sensory and motor component of movement skills in athletic training and rehabilitation. VEGA MŠVVaŠ SR and SAV, Category A, No. 1/0089/20, Duration: 1/2020 – 12/2022

Characteristics: Within the project, we analyzed possibilities of assessing the sensory and motor components of movement skills. Most tests used in practice assess mainly their motor component, while the sensory part is often neglected. Although the test is designed to assess sensory function, it usually includes also a motor task. The enhancement of the athlete's performance after training aimed at improving cognitive functions is therefore often attributed to the improvement of the sensory component, but these changes can also be ascribed to an increase in the motor component. The same is true for assessing the extent of impairment of sensorimotor functions under fatigue caused by prolonged or high-intensity exercise. This issue is also related to diagnostics of people with impaired coordination due to illness or injury. Although it is not possible to clearly separate these two components, we proposed possibilities of indirect assessment of their contribution to performance in the respective tests of coordination abilities.
