Co-investigator: Healthy Aging: The Impact of Lifelong and Time-Specific Physical Activity on Functional, Structural, Metabolic, and Immune Parameters in a Circadian Context (APVV-21-0164)

The project focuses on investigating the mechanisms through which physical activity can support healthy aging and mitigate the negative effects of aging on the circadian system, musculoskeletal system, and immunity. The main goal of the project is to examine the impact of lifelong endurance physical activity, as well as a three-month time-specific training intervention, on the functionality of circadian organization in elderly volunteers.

An additional objective is to assess the effects of lifelong endurance physical activity and training intervention on physical fitness, body composition, bone density, and selected hormonal, biochemical, histological, and molecular markers of metabolic health.

2

Co-investigator: Female Senior Population in the Context of Sports Chronobiology – The Impact of Time-Specific Training Intervention on Selected Hormonal and Molecular Changes Associated with Aging (VEGA No. 1/0482/23, 2023–2025)

The main objective of the project is to investigate the effects of a 12-week training intervention, consisting of a time-specific combined strength and aerobic endurance training program, on adaptive changes at the cellular and subcellular levels of skeletal muscle in the female senior population.

3

Main investigator: Aging, wellbeing and quality of life of women in the context of lifelong physical activity - benefits and risks of endurance running (VEGA No. 0554/24, 2024-2025)

The project investigates the health and physiological benefits and risks of lifelong endurance running activity in the female population, which significantly affects the overall quality of life. By analyzing selected parameters in groups of senior female marathon runners and their physically inactive counterparts, we want to describe adaptive changes induced by long-term unilateral targeted physical activity and compare them with changes associated with the natural ageing process.
