Memory Politics in a Time of Polycrisis: Reflections on Slovakia's Post-Socialist Transformation (2025-2029)
Collective memory of transformation in post-socialist countries has become the subject of intense scientific interest in recent years, but in Slovakia it remains an under-researched area. This project responds to this gap in research and proposes a comprehensive interdisciplinary research design that will enable us to understand the political, economic, and social transformation in Slovakia after 1989. It examines the politics of memory in the context of the current polycrisis, focusing on identity building, relationships of trust, insecurity/security, and political illiberalism.

Motherhood in Transformation: A Hub for Critical Engagement in the Visegrad Countries
The project explores transforming motherhood in post-socialist Visegrad countries as a key democratic and social issue. It connects scholars, activists, journalists, and artists through events and publications to develop new political grammar, support cross-border interdisciplinary networks, and build sustainable infrastructure for knowledge sharing.

The politics of emotions as a form of political exclusion and inclusion (2018-2022)
The project dealt with the role played by the politics of emotions in Slovak political life. It had three main objectives: 1. to contribute to a better understanding of political developments in Slovakia; 2. to develop the operationalization of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the politics of emotions; and 3. to support multidisciplinary research on the politics of emotions in the Slovak academic environment. The ambition of the project was to connect the current level of knowledge of various scientific disciplines, which, although they have a common subject of study, in reality share little information with each other. A multidisciplinary research team, which worked closely together throughout the project, ensured that the research process includes finding and connecting points of contact across scientific disciplines.

Gender Perspectives in Political Science in Slovakia (2019-2021)
This research project aimed to deepen and broaden knowledge about the institutionalization of gender studies in political science in Slovakia. It will build on extensive research in this area abroad, as well as gender-oriented research on epistemic communities in Slovakia, and expand it with new approaches and areas. Since the institutionalization of gender studies in political science has not been sufficiently researched in Slovakia, the project will contribute to filling this gap. At the same time, it will contribute to deepening knowledge about the status, working conditions, and challenges of part of the epistemic community in the context of the neoliberal academic environment. Last but not least, the research aims to contribute to expanding knowledge about the process of negotiating epistemic legitimacy in the political science research environment in Slovakia. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods and a combination of scientific and popularization outputs will lead to the fulfillment of the set goals.

The EU from a political sociological perspective (2019-2022)
Programs in European studies generally focus on EU institutions; however, the EU is influenced both by the political developments within each member state and by the social developments, such social movements and civil society organizations. The EU itself influences the policies of the member states. A comparative, political-sociological perspective emphasizes that the EU is not just a collection of certain institutions; it is also a collection of its member states. To understand how the EU is developing, we need to understand the political and social dynamics among the member states. This is particularly obvious now with Brexit, the emergence of populist movements, etc. A political-sociological perspective is especially unusual within Slovakia. Within the project, the department will apply the political sociological perspective in its educational, research, and scientific activities.
