State exam

Domestic and foreign professional literature in terms of the assigned topic of the bachelor's final thesis.

The conditions for registering for the state exam are defined by Art. 27 of the Study Regulations of the Pedagogical Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava

Course requirements:

Pursuant to §51, paragraph 3 of Act No. 131/2002, as amended, a final thesis is part of the study according to each study program, which together with its defense forms one subject; the defense of the final thesis is one of the state exams. The basic requirements of final theses are also regulated by the Rector's Internal Regulation. The directive regulates the formal requirements of the bachelor's thesis, its structure, the method of citation, submission and the license agreement.

In accordance with the rector's directive V Article 56 VP 23/2021 and the Final thesis must be original, created by the author as a result of his creative activity while observing the rules of working with information sources. The final thesis must not have the character of plagiarism, it must not violate the copyrights of other authors. The author is obliged to consistently cite the information sources used, to mention by name and specific research results of other authors or author collectives by citing the relevant source, to accurately describe the used methods and work procedures of other authors or author collectives, to document laboratory results and field research of other authors or author collectives. The author may not repeatedly submit the same or slightly modified work that he has already defended once as a final thesis, a rigorous thesis or a habilitation thesis. (8) As a rule, the originality of the submitted work is verified by at least two independent anti-plagiarism systems, while the supervisor of the final work, the trainer and the consultant of the rigorous work comment on the result of the originality check as part of the relevant assessment, regardless of the match value that was achieved by the originality check. The rector shall determine by directive the list of permissible anti-plagiarism systems, the use of which is mandatory for verification of originality; this does not exclude the use of other anti-plagiarism systems.

According to the Rector's Guidelines, the student must demonstrate the ability to work creatively in the field of study, adequate knowledge of the subject and apply his skills in collecting, interpreting and processing basic professional literature. It can also compile, make a synthetic review of the literature, or apply it in practice or solve partial tasks related to the student's future professional focus. The condition for admission to the defense is the student's written consent to the publication and making available of the school work. The examination committee for conducting state examinations as part of the defense evaluates the content and formal level of the school work and its originality. The defense of the final bachelor's thesis is a verification of the ability to solve social problems and other tasks of social work. The student presents the structure, content and results of his final thesis in front of the committee, the consultation and opposition opinions are read and the student answers their comments and questions. In relation to the presented topic, the members of the committee lead a professional discussion with the defending student, in which the student has to demonstrate the ability to respond professionally to the additional questions of the members of the committee

Learning outcomes:

By writing a thesis and defending it, the student demonstrates knowledge of the basics of theory and practice of social work at the level of public and non-public sector organizations, his readiness to perform social and legal protection, counseling, diagnosis and forecasting and other forms of social assistance. A bachelor's degree graduate can analyze problems and propose forms and methods of social work, leading to an increase in the client's quality of life. He has basic relevant knowledge in the fields of law, economics, psychology, sociology, demography and others. He has knowledge of the social policy of the state and its development trends, he can coordinate his work with other experts and effectively create a network of assistance to individual and group clients. The result of the defense of the final thesis is evaluated according to the study regulations of the University of Warsaw, with classification grades A to FX.
