            <popisTypuTextu>Conditions for completion of course</popisTypuTextu>
            <texty>
               <p>The requirements for the state examination (examination conditions, deadlines, evaluation, examination board, participation) are specified in Article 15 of the Study Regulations of the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University (VP 5/2020).</p>
               <p>One of the components of the state examination of Master of Philology study programmes at the Department of English and American Studies is "Translation and Interpreting", in which the student must demonstrate translation and interpreting skills at the level corresponding to the profile of a graduate of the given study programme. The state examination includes translation from/into English and consecutive/simultaneous interpreting from/into English with emphasis on the following parameters:</p>
               <p>- Translation of a short text with emphasis on terminological accuracy, stylistics, spelling, culture and quality of written expression.</p>
               <p>- Interpretation of a short speech with an emphasis on maintaining the basic logical structure of the text, completeness of information, quality and variety of language, pronunciation and clarity, the culture of speech, and ability to work dynamically with the ear-voice-span and use of crisis strategies.</p>
               <p>A. Characteristics of the translation section:</p>

               <p>B. Characteristics of the interpreting part:</p>
               <p>Consecutive interpreting: 3-5 minute speech EN -&gt; SK - genre: journalism with a focus on on current political events, containing idioms, rhetorical turns, a few figures and proper names; any technical terminology and lesser-known terms must be communicated in advance.</p>
               <p>Areas of assessment (in order of importance):</p>
               <p>1. preservation of the basic logical structure,</p>
               <p>2. completeness of information,</p>
               <p>3. quality and variety of language, pronunciation and clarity, culture of expression,</p>
               <p>4. observance of speaking time.</p>
               <p>Simultaneous interpreting: 10-minute speech EN -&gt; SK - popular-instructional text, partly professional, ideally from the topics covered in class during the Master's degree. The speech would should contain enumerations, figures of speech, and, to a limited extent, proper names and numbers. Possible technical terminology and less familiar terms must be announced in advance.</p>

               <p>Learning outcomes:</p>
               <p>INTERPRETATION</p>
               <p>Upon successful completion of the state exam, the student will be able to effectively use the techniques of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, work fluently and promptly in the interpreting booth and interpret moderately difficult speeches from Slovak to English and vice versa. He/she will have sufficient automated processes required in interpreting and the ability to select primary and secondary information and to express these in a clear and refined manner in the target language.</p>
               <p>TRANSLATION</p>
               <p>Upon successful completion, the student will be able to work with conceptual apparatus, dictionaries and other reference sources and at an exceptionally high level and be proficient in both the foreign language and their own language. He/she can produce a high-quality, comprehensible and clear translation from English into Slovak and vice versa.</p>

            <popisTypuTextu>Conditions for completion of course</popisTypuTextu>

               <p>The student can take the state exam a) after obtaining at least such number of credits that after obtaining credits for successful completion of state exams, they achieve the necessary number of credits for the proper completion of studies, b) after successful completion of compulsory subjects, compulsory elective subjects, and elective subjects in the composition determined by the study program, c) after fulfilling the student's obligations arising from § 71, par. 3 letter b of the Higher Education Act, d) if no disciplinary action is taken against them. Successful completion of the state exam is one of the conditions for successful completion of the study program. The subject of the state exam is evaluated by the committee for state exams using the grading scale A-FX. The evaluation of the state examination or its part is decided by the examination committee by consensus. If the examination committee does not reach a consensus, the evaluation of the state examination or its part is decided by voting. On the basis of the wording of the study regulations of the faculty (Internal Rules and Regulations 5/2020, Art. 15), the framework dates of state examinations are set by the dean in accordance with the faculty's academic schedule. Departments are obliged to publish the dates of their state exams on the website no later than 5 weeks before they take place. The student registers for the state exam through the academic information system (AIS) at least three weeks before it takes place. The student is entitled to one regular and two resit attempts of the state exam. The regular attempt is the one for which the student applied for the first time within the deadline set for state exams. If the student was evaluated with the FX mark on the regular attempt of the state exam, the student may take resits of the state exam a) on the following dates assigned for state examinations in the relevant academic year or b) on the dates assigned for state examinations in one of the following academic years in accordance with § 65, par. 2 of the Higher Education Act. The written exam consists of a translation of two texts from Greek into Slovak: 1. from a prescribed reading, translation  without a dictionary, 2. translation of an unknown continuous text fwith a dictionary. The oral exam: Translation from Greek into Slovak and interpretation of selected passages from the prescribed reading: a) 1 text from poetry, b) 1 text from prose. He or she has time to prepare an oral presentation of their knowledge about the given topic. While preparing, he or she can use a pen and a blank sheet of paper. The presentation takes place in front of the commission, after which he or she may be given further questions. The commission decides their assessment privately; out of the presence of students and guests. The course of the state examination and the announcement of results is public. The results are announced together; after examining all students registered for the given term.</p>

He is able to apply the things he learned to interdisciplinary relationships, is able to think critically. By successfully passing the state exam, the student proves that he / she masters the Greek language from a theoretical point of view and is proficient in practical language skills. He is able to translate coherent texts from Ancient Greek into Slovak. He has systematic knowledge of the language and style of important representatives of Greek literature according to the prescribed reading (pensum) and is able to translate and interpret their works.</p>
