1. Contribution of the thesis to the field of study. The evaluation of the thesis assesses whether the student has adequately demonstrated the ability to work creatively in the field of study in which he/she has completed the study programme, reflects the degree of demonstration of knowledge and knowledge of the issue, assesses the skills applied in the collection, interpretation and processing of the basic literature, or the extent to which the student has mastered the application of theoretical bases in practice and whether the hypotheses presented in the thesis are verifiable;

2. Originality of the thesis (the thesis must not be plagiarized, must not infringe the copyrights of other authors), the documentation for the defence of the thesis as a subject of the state examination includes the originality protocol from the central register, the results of which are commented on by the supervisor and the opponent in their opinions;

3. Correctness and correctness of citation of used information sources, research results of other authors and author teams, correctness of description of methods and working procedures of other authors or author teams;

4. Compliance of the structure of the thesis with the prescribed structure defined by the currently valid internal regulations of Comenius University;

5. Respect of the recommended scope of the thesis (the recommended scope of the thesis is usually 50 - 70 standard pages - 90 000 to 126 000 characters including spaces), the adequacy of the scope of the thesis is assessed by the supervisor;

6. The linguistic and stylistic level of the thesis and formal editing;

7. The manner and form of the thesis defence and the student's ability to respond adequately to the comments and questions in the supervisor's and opponent's evaluations.

Submission of the thesis by the deadline specified in the timetable of the current academic year for the respective date of the state examination. The diploma thesis is submitted in accordance with the currently valid provisions of the Rector's Directive of Comenius University on the basic requisites of final theses, rigorous theses and habilitation theses, control of their originality, storage and access to them at Comenius University in Bratislava. The provisions of the currently valid Study Regulations of the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University apply to the evaluation of the thesis as a subject of the state examination.

An essay on a socio-cultural, historical or political topic of the chosen Germanic area written in the language of that area.

The topic is chosen according to the required courses taken.

The student is able to write a coherent and stylistically and grammatically adequate essay on

a given topic in a selected Germanic language within a specified scope.

1. The student will demonstrate factual knowledge of the Germanic literature in question.

2. The student will demonstrate the ability to interpret a selected literary excerpt in terms of narrative devices, motifs, rhetorical devices, intertextual references, etc., and to present a coherent interpretation of the excerpt in light of the work as a whole.

The student must achieve at least a 60% pass rate in the subject of the state examination. The grading scale is as follows: 0-59% = FX, 60-67% = E, 68-75% = D, 76-83% = C, 84-91% = B, 92-100% = A. In the event of a violation of academic ethics, the points earned in the respective grade item will be cancelled.

German, Dutch or Swedish language

The course takes the form of an oral examination on one of the topics/questions in the field of Germanic literatures, which are published in advance on the department's website.

The student is able to characterize a given literary epoch according to a given question, knows the basic data from the life and overall work of a given author and is able to interpret a given literary excerpt in the context of a given work (e.g. a chapter from a novel). Can compare the work with other works that are the subject of the national examination, and knows basic data on the reception of the author and the work.

An oral examination consisting of the analysis and interpretation of a text in a selected Germanic language, aimed at testing knowledge of the selected language (German, Dutch, Swedish).

The text, which is selected and presented to the student by a committee, focuses on current aspects of social and political and cultural developments in German/Austrian/Swiss, Dutch/Belgian or

Scandinavian society.

The committee assesses the student's ability to contextualise the knowledge acquired about the social political and cultural development of German/Dutch/Swedish speaking countries and his/her ability to intercultural interpretation of social phenomena based on the analysis of an actual text.

The assessment focuses on the level of verbalisation of aspects of the analysis, the level of knowledge on the topic analysed and the ability to apply it in intercultural communication and academic discussion.

The student must achieve at least a 60% pass rate in the subject of the state examination.

Slovak, and a selected Germanic language (German, Dutch, Swedish)

Can compare the work with other works that are the subject of the national examination, and knows basic data on the reception of the author and the work.

Furthermore, the student is able to contextualise selected knowledge, phenomena and personalities from the cultural milieu of German-speaking countries and regions in the context of Society and Politics, in German, on the basis of a text that will be part of the specified question.
