Analysis of morphosyntactic and specific lexical features of various specialized texts, which are focused on banking, economics, taxes, as well as science and technology (with special regard to the field of medicine). Seminars are designed to help students acquire appropriate means of expression and to analyse stylistic properties of texts focused on the mentioned areas.

After successful completion of the course, students know the basic stylistic factors of Italian language. Students became acquainted with language styles, especially in areas of banking, economics, and also science and technology. They expanded their specialized vocabulary of given areas with focus on the means of expression, construction of text and stylistic features of text.

Student is able to identify and correct undesirable semantic shifts that occur during the translation of a specialized text. The student’s translation skills can be applied to translation of specialized texts with a higher degree of difficulty from Italian to Slovak.

Students are going to get acquainted with the current cultural and social situation in Italy through presentations, articles, videos, and from Italian newspapers and magazines. Students gain an overview of various socio-cultural areas through discussing current events. They develop and expand their communication skills in the Italian language.

The student can take the state exam

The exam consists of translation of specialized text and interpretation (consecutive and simultaneous), which verifies the achieved level of interpreting competence, as well as the ability to creatively apply the skills, habits, and strategies of translation and interpreting.
Scale of assessment (preliminary/final): 0/100
The student is able to simultaneously interpret spoken speech of medium difficulty level lasting 10-15 minutes on one of the selected topics: health care, law, economics, politics – international relations.
The student is able totranslate a speech of adequate difficulty lasting maximum of 5 minutes into Slovak with the help of notes. They manage to translate specialized text of medium and high level of difficulty in terms of scope, its linguistic complexity, and complexity pertaining to specialized topic.

The final state examination in Italian literature and culture consists of a scope of knowledge that students have acquired during the study of subjects focused on literature and culture. Students must prove their knowledge of Italian literature as well as history and current political, social, and cultural events in Italy. They must be able to put knowledge into context and present it at an academic level in accomplished Italian.

2. The student receives a question from the subject of the state exam.
3. The examination committee will provide the student with reasonable time to prepare their oral answer to the question.
4. The student presents the prepared answer to the question in front of the examination committee and answers additional questions.
5. After the student finishes their answer, the examination committee decides on the results of the state exam in a closed session of the examination committee.
The course of the state exam and the announcement of its results are public.

Students get acquainted with the characteristics and the use of consecutive interpreting, they refined the ability to work with short-term memory and they practiced notetaking. They gained the ability to translate simple and short Italian text into their mother tongue with the help of notes.

Practice of independent speech. Practice of sight translation, gradually increasing the complexity of specialized texts from Italian into Slovak.
Scale of assessment: 80% preliminary/ 20% final
After successful completion of the course, students have practiced and acquired techniques of consecutive interpreting and note-taking on texts with increasing terminological complexity. They developed additional interpreting skills focusing on accuracy. They gained the ability to translate longer and more difficult Italian text into their mother tongue with the help ofnotes.

Translation of selected texts from and to Italian with medium and high level of difficulty. Focusing on the problem of non-equivalence of translated terms in the relevant cultural settings. Translation of documents from various types of professional areas.

After successfully completing the course, the student has mastered skills to analyse the most nuanced problems in the field of translation on a comparative basis, with special emphasis on the problem of interference of the source language to the target language. The student is able to identify and correct undesirable semantic shifts that occur during the translation of a specialized text. The student can successfully apply the acquired translation skills in translation of specialized texts with high degree of difficulty from Italian to Slovak and vice versa.
